There is more to achieve, says Amitabh
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Thursday said that his
contributions to the entertainment world had been
extremely minimal as there was still much left to be
done.
"My contributions have been extremely minimal. There is
so much more to do yet," the Bollywood icon said after
receiving the One Lifetime, Many Lives achievement award
conferred by a leading women's voluntary organisation.
Bachchan said that he had never imagined that he would
emerge as a leading hero of Hindi cinema.
"I was quite happy playing whatever role came in my
way," Bachchan said as an awestruck audience, mostly
women, carefully heard him, mesmerised by his golden
voice.
Recalling that K.A. Abbas had introduced him to master
of new genre films Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Bachchan said
"we made wonderful films together. We do not see such
movies today."
He recalled the significant chapter played by directors
Prakash Mehra and Manmohan Desai in shaping his career
and thanked the erstwhile writer duo of Salim Khan and
Javed Akhtar for discovering the protagonist of 'young
angry man' in him for movies like Zanjeer, Deewar and
Sholay.
"It is pity that they (Salim and Javed) don't work
together any longer," lamented Bachchan.
The award was conferred by Inner Wheel for Bachchan's
multifarious achievements packing into one lifetime.
Lauding the works of younger generation directors like
Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra, Bachchan said that many
of them were born in front of him.
"I am glad the way the new generation has taken the
cudgels. I think very soon they will make a mark in the
world cinema," Bachchan said.
The jam packed hall of a spacious hotel gave a standing
ovation as he recited the immortal "Kabhie kabhi mere
dil me..." poetry from his past blockbuster and few
immortal lines from his father illustrious Harivansh Rai
Bachchan's Madhushala. |
